About the event
This sound walk is a combination of active listening to the environment and listening session of an audio documentary. Led by Martyna Šulskutė, participants will learn about the multi-layered history of Baltoji Vokė while walking along the planned route and will be invited to listen to the sounds of the place around them.
The town of Baltoji Vokė was established in the Šalčininkai district after the swamp was drained and settlements were built for the inhabitants of the peatlands. Today, conservationists in these territories are striving to restore the natural swamp environment and bring back the natural biodiversity.
During the walk, audience will listen to excerpts from Martyna Šulskutė’s audio documentary “The Swampy History of Lithuania” (2026). This audio documentary is an attempt to enter the swamps in different eras, along paths carved by different people, and to understand what an encounter with a human means for the swamp itself.
