Roman’s Story is an episode of horror and hope. After a sleepless night of writing, Roman reads aloud from a horror story he has just finished and reflects on the events surrounding his own institutionalization. Although the place he was sent to had the romantic name Home by the Forest, there was nothing romantic about life there: Roman found himself alone, without friends or loved ones. His story moves between escape, rescue and an artistic world filled with apocalyptic yet hopeful visions.
The piece is part of Who Cares, an eight-part podcast series based on first-hand experiences of institutional care.
